Invitation to participate
Exceptional, I think, in that the congress programme is purposefully focused on solutions. A combination of high quality technical presentations on the science and practice of water and sanitation are coupled with peer-based workshops that emphasise learning from the ground level. Woven in between these traditional elements are an awards programme, book launches, exhibition space, poster presentations, social and networking receptions and technical tours that round off the event. The Congress is strategically important, in that the international community knows we are seriously off track in our efforts to address water and sanitation service provision in developing countries. The message is clear—we need to not only accelerate progress, but must focus our efforts and those of other organizations on the areas of greatest need with the greatest potential for change and transformation. The focus of this event—on smart solutions for financing and infrastructure, utility management, institutional development, regulations and policy—is therefore timely. The event aims to share practical knowledge and know-how on water and Sanitation to foster greater learning amongst peers, and to provide a solid platform on which delivery of water and sanitation services for all citizens can be achieved. As an association, this is one of the strongest legacies that we can leave—better, more focused and applied knowledge, excellence in delivery of basic services and a network of professionals who are passionate about their vocation. It remains for me to thank you, our IWA members and the participants at this event for sharing your expertise, time and energy with us.
